Carbon and Energy Use Accounting
Scope 1 & 2 Emissions
Carbon reporting legislation has proliferated in recent years. The variation between greenhouse gas laws necessitates a flexible carbon emission accounting program that can satisfy dynamic obligations. Measuring, monitoring, and reducing facility and corporate-wide greenhouse gas emissions have become established as both a legal requirement and a significant opportunity for cost saving.
Whether you are reporting to a regulatory body, voluntarily, or to your investors, accurately calculating your Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions is essential. However, variable definitions of responsible parties, scope of obligated responsibilities and emission reporting / carbon credit allocation processes present data management and reporting challenges.
Carbon Management Solution
GEMS provides enterprise-wide Carbon Management that is configurable to your chosen greenhouse gas (GHG) emission calculation methodologies. Emission factors can be readily adjusted to ensure that the most accurate and reliable units of measure are used for international operations. Foresite’s Carbon Management Module supports compliance with all major reporting initiatives including:
- UK CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme,
- US Clean Air Act Greenhouse Gas Permitting Requirements,
- Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) Greenhouse Gas Guidelines;
- WRI/WBCSD Greenhouse Gas Protocols; and
- Carbon Disclosure Project reporting standards
GEMS provides an intuitive facility-level energy consumption data entry portal, that can be utilized to track facility and corporate-wide emissions data, energy consumption costs, and energy usage data. The application creates an auditable format by ‘locking’ the fuel usage data entered into the system, yet preserves flexibility to respond to dynamic customer and regulatory requests by permitting the user to input variable emission factors. This data is rolled up to the corporate level and viewable in carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e), by individual gas, or by cost for standardized evaluation and carbon reporting.
